WILDERNESS, S O U T H A F R I C A

The humid heat breaks
I run out into the rain – Open my mouth
Open my body
Open my feet to the wet earth
I open my throat and say a prayer
I feel the hush of spirit rush through me
Sand becomes mud, leaves tremble with the thud
Of huge falling droplets welcoming nourishment into their veins
My body cools, rejuvenates, revives
A flowering inside
Where thought and hope and heart reside
Soft earth between my toes
She sighs and holds and knows
She takes my pain
I feel it drain out of me and to the sea of alchemy
